Covenant Guide

Any woman or Circle in our global community who has decided to connect with women in other parts of the world may want to consider forming a covenant - a mutual agreement - to affirm and undergird the relationship. This agreement will clarify the sense of purpose and expectations for the members of your Circle and make your commitment real. The covenant you create with your Circle sisters can be as specific or as general as you wish. The Expectations and  Money Guide documents on this website may be helpful as you consider your new and growing relationships.

On this page, you will find a very simple sample covenant around which you may wish to create your own. Check with your sisters to see if they are interested in creating one, since this exercise is entirely voluntary. Sometimes it is best to work on a covenant after a period of getting to know one another. We recommend that you begin within three to four months after your first communications.

Sample Covenant

Vision: Our relationship exists for the purposes of mutual friendship, strengthening each other in our daily lives, and furthering peace in the world.

Mission: Through our Peace X Peace relationship, we will

  • Listen to one another's life stories
  • Share our own experiences in life
  • Learn about the realities of our sisters' daily lives
  • Allow ourselves to be challenged by encountering each other's joys and sorrows
  • Encourage each other through regular communication
  • Find intersections of shared experience in each other's lives

Expressions

  • Learning: We will learn about each other's cultures, geography, current issues, and history. (Page X Page covers a wide range of topics about women's issues from around the world.)
  • Communication: We will work together to find a mutually acceptable mode and frequency of communication.
  • Exchange: We will come to a clear understanding of the degree and nature of exchange with one another, particularly as it relates to financial issues.
  • Respect: We will respect each other's values and opinions.
  • Concern: We will work together patiently to resolve any conflict that arises within our relationship.

If you would like assistance from Peace X Peace in this process, please contact Kay Robinson, kay@peacexpeace.org. She can put you in touch with other members who have gone through the process and are willing to offer experience.
