Advisory Council

The Peace X Peace Circle of Advisors extends our outreach and the expertise that informs and supports all of our programs. It is a highly diverse group of experts in peacebuilding and systems change. These distinguished individuals represent a wide spectrum of cultures, nationalities, and religious beliefs and hail from around the world including the regions of Central Asia, South East Asia, the Middle East, and North America.

Dr. Azizah al-Hibri
Preeminent Muslim-American interpreter of Islamic law, guest of Bill Moyers, President and Executive Director of the Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights (KARAMAH), and Founding Editor of Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy.

Jean Shinoda Bolen, MD
Jungian analyst, psychiatrist and Clinical Professor at UCSF, Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, past board member of the Ms. Foundation for Women, and an internationally known author, most notably for "Goddesses in Everywoman." "The Millionth Circle" inspired the formation of the Millionth Circle Initiative, a sister organization of Peace X Peace. Her newest book is "Urgent Message From Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World."

Dr. Riane Eisler
Founder/President of the Center for Partnership Studies, Originator of Cultural Transformation Theory, co-founder of the Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate Violence and author of the international bestseller The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, Our Future as well as the award-winning Tomorrow's Children: A Blueprint for Partnership Education in the 21st Century and The Power of Partnership: Seven Relationships That Will Change Your Life, among other books.

Fatima Gailani
Director of the Red Crescent of Afghanistan, member of the Loya Jirga of Afghanistan, one of three women advisors at the Bonn Conference for Afghanistan's interim government, Afghan Consititutional Commissioner, and Afghan women's rights activist.

Ela Gandhi
Former member of the South African parliament representing the African National Congress from 1994-2003. Editor and Management committe Chairperson of the newspaper "Satyagraha." Secretary of the Gandhi Development Trust, Vice Chairperson of the Domestic Violence Help Line, Vice Chairperson of the Mahatma Gandhi Crafts Center and Vice Chairperson of the World Conference on Religion and Peace.

Noeleen Heyzer
Past Executive Director of United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Founding member of the Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era and the Asia Pacific Women in Law and Development.

Benjamin Hoffman
President and CEO, Canadian International Insitute of Applied Negotiation; Director, International Peace and Prosperity Project; former Director, Conflict Resolution Program, The Carter Center; Founder and Director of NewMathforHumanity.

Barbara Marx Hubbard

Palestinian-American grassroots organizer, doctoral candidate at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, President of the Board for Northern Virginia Mediation Services, and a Board Member of Partners in Peace and the Institute for Victims of Trauma.

Susan Collin Marks
Facilitator of the National Peace Accord in South Africa; Executive Vice President of Search for Common Ground, an international NGO working in Conflict Prevention, reconciliation and Peacebuilding worldwide; and author of "Watching the Wind: Conlict Resolution During South Africa's Transition to Democracy."

William N. Melton
Internet visionary, Co-Founder and Chairman of Melton International Education Foundation, Founder and former Chief Executive Officer of VeriFone, Inc., CyberCash, and Global Investment Venture.

Mario Morino
Mario is the founder of Venture Philanthropy Partners, a pioneer organization in the venture philanthropy field. The organization has made some of the best nonprofits in the Washington, DC, area stronger and is serving as a model for similar organizations nationwide.
